| This just stems from a conversation I was reading on Facebook. - Quote :
- It's OKAY to "whoop" a child's ass because that's how it was done "back in the day" and it will "teach" them respect, but you can't beat your wife. Isn't beating your wife and smacking/beating your child's ass to discipline them the same thing? Why is it okay to do one and not the other? I mean children obviously have no rights or feelings.

| I think they are different. Someone beats their partner because they want control, they are trying to hurt, belittle and humiliate them for something that upset them. They are malicious when doing so.
When someone spanks or smacks their kids it is to correct them. There is a difference between spanking your child and beating your child. I don't spank my kids but to each their own. It is just a preference of parenting. I know people who do spank their kids, they don't do it all of the time, they don't do it hard they just smack their bottom. Is it ok to spank your kids? That's not for me to say, that is a personal choice of parenting. Is it okay to beat your kids into submission? No, that is abuse. Is it okay to beat your domestic partner into submission? No, that too is abuse. |

| Agreed, they are 2 completely different things. I don't spank because I feel like time out work 100x better but I definitely don't think spanking a child and beating up your spouse can be compared whatsoever. When you're hitting your spouse it's because you're pissed and frankly, an asshole, but when your spanking a child it's usually being done to correct a behaviour issue. You don't ground your spouse, you don't teach your spouse to be a decent human being, it's just not part of the relationship because it's between 2 adults. I just don't see how those things can be compared. |

I hope you don't mind. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Not really comparable. Beating is wrong no matter who you are. Spanking, and I mean a couple of whacks on the ass not a full on whooping, can be very effective when needed. Some kids just don't listen and whack on the ass is a good little wakeup call. Beating your wife is wrong, period. If she isn't obeying you then you need to shut the fuck up because you have no right to tell her what to do in the first place, it's called a partnership for a reason! |

| I don't spank my kids cause I have other ways to ground/discipline. But to each their own. However I agree with Tori and Ash! |

| If any adult (especially a man) were to ever hit me, they'd better make sure I stay down because if I get up----it's all over honey!! |

| The more I think about it, the more I do compare the two. I also have to look at the difference between a spanking and smacking. There is a difference and some parents think the two are the same. I don't spank Aiden because it doesn't work for him and I would feel like shit. I just feel like you shouldn't put your hands on your spouse or your child no matter what the situation.
I'm going to have to think about this some more. |
