I am on the fence for specific issues that comes with this. I think if you go out to eat and wait staff brings you your drinks/food you should tip them. However , the quality of their service results in what the end tip amount may be. On the other hand, you cannot be in this line of work and always expect your customers to be generous or tip at all. This is the nature of the beast. I was in the food industry almost my entire work life and its just common sense.

I never was a waitress but being a hair stylist and nail tech some stylist and technicians expect it. It doesn't always work that way. If ur personality isn't the greatest you ain't getting one or much of one. If ur not good at what you do ur not getting one or much of one. Some people don't have the extra money or are on a tight budget. U are still getting a paycheck the tips are just extra cash in ur pocket.

The reason their pay is so low is completely dependent on tips. If you feel like a waitress shouldn't be tipped, their wages HAVE to go up.
I don't particularily like to tip a bad waitress but I usually do it regardless of service.. it will just be more if they're better.

The OP sounds like a douchebag and should probably have her wages cut and if someone "feels like" giving her a tip if she over performs, well good for her.

If they want a tip then they need to earn it, I am very careful to examine my server alone when I leave a tip. Some people don't realize that not everything is in the server's control. If it is busy then you will have a little wait. If your food isn't cooked properly that is the kitchen's fault, if your glass is dirty that is on the dishwasher. I've seen so many people go off on a server or not tip them for something that had nothing to do with them. But regardless of the service I will leave at least $2, if they are awesome then I will be VERY generous. Also, I will not go out and eat somewhere where there is a wait staff if I do not have money for a tip. If you can't pay a tip then order the food takeout or run threw McDonalds.

For whatever reason the picture or what is supposed to be attached to this isn't showing up. But based off of the comments I will try to give my 2 cents. I waitressed and bartended for a few years. I don't want to toot my horn but I was damn good at what I did and made almost $2000/month in just tips alone. I have a very high standard of service because I have been there before. Even when there were situations with food, from the kitchen, that were beyond my control...... I still busted my ass and got tipped well. I am probably a server's dream customer. I have never been rude, yelled etc. Even when things are down right shitty, I keep my cool. Always please and thank you and I clean up after myself. Anywho.....I have a high standard of service and you earn your tip, just like you earn your paycheck anywhere else. All to many people in the service industry have the attitude that they deserve a tip no matter what, because that's how it is. They should know better that those tips are what pay their bills and if they are shitty, then they don't get as much. I have never not tipped but you bet there have been times that I have only left $1 because at least for me, that was more hurtful than no tip at all. There have been a few times I have been no tipped and realized I needed to pull my head out of my ass and quit letting my mood effect my job. Tj and I don't go out to eat often but we do get remembered for being generous tippers. *rant over* lol

If you treat your patrons well, you deserve a good tip. You suck and are rude you aren't getting shit. You have to earn it.
