(Reuters) - Facebook photos posted by Sarah Palin showing her son Trig using the family dog as a step stool unleashed online fury on Friday reminiscent of the public reaction to the disclosure that Mitt Romney had once driven with his dog strapped on the car's roof. Trig, 6, who has Down Syndrome, is shown stepping on the back of the family's black Labrador while it lies on the kitchen floor in order to reach the sink. The dog appears unruffled. The Facebook post by Palin, who was the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008, drew more than 12,000 comments by midday Friday, ranging from cries of animal abuse to those seconding Palin's praise for the youngest of her five children. | I don't think it's as bad as some people are making it out to be, but I don't think she should let him climb on the dog. Then taking a picture of it because it's 'cute' just makes it seem worse.
Kids should not climb on their pets. It's just mean. That dog isn't that big either. |

| I think this is horrible. She shouldn't be condoning this because it's cute. I think it's worse that her child is special needs (down syndrome) and she is allowing this to happen. She needs to work with him on knowing the proper way of treating a pet that he might not understand, her allowing this to happen and then being all this is so cute is doing nothing but setting him up for failure. This dog is obviously a family pet and a very loving one to tolerate this treatment but he might think it's okay to do this to another dog since he can this one and then get attacked. All of the people who are condoning this picture and her actions and saying let them be are the exact same group of people that will go after a dog wanting it dead immediately when it harms a child. The irony. |

| I agree [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. She should be teaching her child right from wrong. It sickens me that she would put this on Facebook. What the hell is wrong with this woman? |

| I hin k she she teach her child but that picture isn't horrible. He shouldn't do it again though. It was a moment in life that she snapped a picture. The dog doesn't seem to mind. Bit again he shouldn't do it again either. |

| I think that a huge stink is being made about it just because it's Sarah Palin and a lot of people don't like her. Any time of "celeb" or somewhat famous person puts something on social media, it's up for instant scrutiny a million time over what it would be if a "normal" person had posted it. I think the hub bub over it is a bit redic but I would also never let my kids step on my dog like that because if the dogs snaps and bites, you can't blame it. |
