PostSubject: Should Mark Wahlberg Be Pardoned?   Fri Dec 05, 2014 2:01 pm

Quote :
In April 1988, Mark Wahlberg, 16, set upon a Vietnamese immigrant named Thanh Lam, and, with a wooden stick, beat him so severely that Lam fell to the ground, unconscious. Later that night, according to contemporaneous accounts, Wahlberg found another Asian man, Hoa Trinh, and, calling him a "gook" and "slant eye," smashed him in the face.

Trinh lost sight in his right eye.

Wahlberg was arrested, convicted, and spent 45 days in jail, an experience that hardened him for the rest of his younger days and provided him creative fodder for many of his later projects. He has insisted that, despite his liberal use of racial slurs, race did not motivate his attack. His intoxication, apparently, did.

Twenty-six years later, Wahlberg wants a formal pardon from the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Why? He has devoted the rest of his life to being a model citizen. His movies do not glorify violence (apparently). He has contributed significantly to his community. He has mentored many young boys away from a life of crime. He has demonstrated, in deed, a respect for the police.

His pardon application includes the following ambition: "My hope is that, if I receive a pardon, troubled youths will see this as an inspiration and motivation that they too can turn their lives around."

Do you think that he has made up for his past actions?
I do believe he has made up for his past actions and that is great.

Do you think that he should be pardoned?
No he should not be pardoned. He did what he did. Making up for his past mistakes and/or becoming famous does not change what he did to that man.

Do you think that he thinks he should be pardoned because he is a celebrity?
Definitely no! Just because he is a celebrity does not make his past actions any different whatsoever!

Do you think that he has made up for his past actions? I think he has done a lot of good things that have made him a better person and he has bettered the people hes encountered and worked with, but what i want to know, is if he has done anything to make amends with the men he hurt?

Do you think that he should be pardoned? No, just like Alycia said, he did what he did, and even if he does good for rest of his life, he should still have that reminder that he screwed up

Do you think that he thinks he should be pardoned because he is a celebrity? i heard a snippet on the news about him wanting to be pardoned because its affecting certain aspects of his career...so i really don't know about this question...

He will probably be pardoned because he is a celebrity but I don't know if he feels he should be simply because he is a celebrity. It'll happen tho.--I feel every one should have the same opportunity tho. if they have truly straightened up and proved themselves to be better people.

Do you think that he has made up for his past actions?

Yes, I think he was young and stupid and his most recent things that he has done in life may have made up for that.

Do you think that he should be pardoned?
No, you did what you did no matter if back then you were stupid, young, intoxicated you still did it. You have to live with that on your record and for life just like any other normal citizen.

Do you think that he thinks he should be pardoned because he is a celebrity?
Yes, I do believe he thinks because he is a celebrity he should be and he probably will be which is bull shit. Just because you are a celebrity does not mean that you should have your past mistakes and stuff cleared.

Do uyou think he has made up for his past actions?
Made up? No. He almost killed a guy and blinded another. Has he given those people back anything?? Doubtful.
Has he worked hard to change, sure. But that doesn't take away his actions.
Do you think he should be pardoned? Nope. I don't. Do the crime do the time. Have I been pardoned after a judge realized my ex tried to kill me and that's why I beat the shit out of him? No. I have charges on my record the rest of my life. I've never gotten in trouble before or after. I've made a good life behaving. I don't have the money he does to do the things he does. So that gets him pardoned ? Crap!
Do you think he should be pardoned because he's a celebrity? Why does that make a differnece? Celebrities fuck up more than the average joe. Why? Because they have more money. So why does being an actor and singer get him a pardon?? All that does is teach these young moron celebrities that they can fuck up and be pardoned if they throw enough money around!!!

Every citizen has the right to try and have there past "indiscretions" expunged. He should follow the same route everyone else has to follow. It should not be influenced by his being a celebrity.

Yeah he's grown up, made up for his mistakes, but no. He screwed up and just because he's a celeb doesn't mean he gets special treatment.
