Worlds Collide! 'The Simpsons' Meet Their Proto Versions Empty

Quote :
The Simpsons have crossed paths with many a terrifying foe during their 25 years of life in Springfield. Aliens Kang and Kodos. The zombie Ned Flanders. Mel Gibson.

But all those encounters will seem like a doughnut with sprinkles compared to what Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie will be forced to deal with during this year's Simpsons Halloween special.

America's favorite family will come face-to-yellow-face with... themselves. Oh, the horror! Cue the ominous crash of lightning!

Casual fans might not remember, but once upon a time, the animated superstars appeared in short clips on The Tracy Ullman Show before they got their own show. While the voice actors were the same, the characters looked a lot different. Homer's head was oddly pointy. Bart looked a lot meaner. And Lisa's hair — never her best feature (sorry, Lisa, but it's true) — was even more electrified.

Which will make the crossover "Treehouse of Horror" episode, set to air on Fox on October 19, all the more creepy and fun. The encounter between the families — one of several stories set to air during the episode — will reportedly be a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the acclaimed 2001 Nicole Kidman thriller The Others.

Executive producer Al Jean joked with Entertainment Weekly about the bizarre crossover, "The great thing is we didn’t have to ask — we already had the cast hired for the Tracey Ullman Simpsons.”

The Simpsons Season 26 premieres September 28 at 8 p.m. on Fox.

I've not really cared for The Simpson's that much.
